This past week, our friend and ECHO Connection family member Sadie Higuera was granted her once-in-a-lifetime wish from Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego.
Her wish?
To be in the sand and build sandcastles.
Make-A-Wish generously granted Sadie and her family a five-day San Diego Experience, which included a stay at a luxury resort in Coronado and an array of activity-filled days. On day one, the Higuera’s were given a VIP experience at the US Sand Sculpting Challenge, an invitational competition between Master Sand Sculptors from around the world. The event also featured a wide array of entertainment, including live music, food trucks, games, and a sandbox. Sadie and her sisters spent the afternoon playing in the sand.
Sadie’s five-day San Diego experience also featured a sailing adventure with Captain Bob on the Black Gold, a day at Silver Strand State Beach, and a visit to the San Diego Zoo.
Born with a rare congenital neurodegenerative disorder called Schinzel-Giedion, four-year-old Sadie is a testament to hope. Having previously experienced upwards of 300 seizures of day, Sadie finally found relief and healing after her parents Brian and Damaris discovered cannabidiol (CBD) hemp oil. Now given a second chance at living life with her parents and two sisters, Sadie no longer experiences grand mal seizures and is even able to attend school. She was not expected to live beyond age two, but in May celebrated her 4th birthday with her family at Rosarito Beach.
Sadie’s father, Brian Higuera, serves on the Board of Directors for ECHO Connection. Ever since Sadie’s health improved so significantly, Brian has been dedicated to educating others and advocating for CBD. CBD oil, when derived from imported hemp, is available in most major markets as a nutritional supplement and is federally legal in the U.S., although some states have passed laws regulating CBD.
The Higuera’s are just one of many of our ECHO Connection families. ECHO is proud to help educate families on the therapeutic and healing properties of CBD, and to connect those facing special circumstances with product donations. We’re proud to have sponsored 22 families so far. If you or someone you know are facing a special-case health situation could benefit from cannabinoids, learn more about how to become an ECHO Sponsored Family and what to know when applying.
